Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never done backpacking- what is it?

Backpacking is just like camping, but without the car. Everything we need for the trip has to fit in our packs and be light enough to carry around all day. The best way to learn about it is to try it out!

What do I need to know / buy before my first backpacking trip?

Beginner trips are for all skill levels, no previous knowledge or experience is necessary! The gear, and the prices, can be daunting- but luckily The Nomadology provides all of the group gear (tents, stoves, food, etc.) and we have a rental program for most of the personal gear that you’ll need to bring (backpack, sleeping bag, etc.). When you sign up for a trip you’ll be sent a detailed gear list with lots of recommendations.

What is included in the cost of the trip?

Once you sign up, you’ll get a gear list and a trip itinerary, and a guide that can help with preparation questions.

The route planning and permits will be taken care of before meeting at the trailhead, and all of the group gear will meet you there, too!

On the trip, all of the meals are provided, along with personalized backpacking lessons every step of the way.

What fitness level is recommended for a beginner level trip?

Beginner level trips are a good fit for anyone! That being said, backpacking is never easy, and the more training you do beforehand, the more enjoyable your trip will be.
