What’s the Story?
Hello!
Hi, I’m Clara!
I wasn’t introduced to backpacking until college, where my university made it easy and affordable to try it out through the recreation department.
I graduated in California, then worked on projects for the NMFS on the East Coast, then bounced back to Michigan to work on projects for the US EPA while studying Sustainable Management of Biological Resources in graduate school at The University of Michigan.
Then the pandemic hit.
I found myself without a job and living back at home like many folks my age. This also seemed to be a moment that everyone could use some time off the internet, in outdoor spaces, connecting with others. So I asked around… Who would be interested in backpacking with me?
The response has been overwhelming!
What we Offer:
We want to cut down on the road blocks that prevent women from backpacking. These are the reasons that we hear most often, and this is how The Nomadology combats them:
-
We provide all of the group gear on every trip, and we provide a detailed list of gear that each participant will have to bring, borrow, or rent. Our gear rental program keeps women from having to purchase expensive equipment, especially when trying out a new hobby.
-
Our trips bring together groups of 6-10 women with a shared interest in learning backpacking. Many women form friendships on our trips and continue making plans together on and off the trail for years to come.
-
We take care of all of the trip planning- the permits, route planning, and group gear. Throughout the trip we teach everything from pack-packing, to blister dressing, to staying warm at night, and everything in between.
